Knowing Your Company, Audience & Social Media

There are an infinite number of social media platforms, with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn alternating the top 3 spots. And while there are many social venues, you need to know who is using what. If you’re a company that has a mostly older fan-base, Instagram or Snapchat might not be the best way to reach them.

With Generation Y and Millennials, it can be a bit more tricky – their tastes change daily. Originally, they preferred Facebook but now have moved on to Instagram and Snapchat as new technology choices hit the market. The common Facebook age demographic is 25-34, but in my own experience, there are high school students that use it to follow friends; and the older generation that has it to keep up with their grandchildren.

With that said, the importance of understanding your audience is second to making sure that you stay true to yourself as a company.

Key takeaways:

  • Embrace existing and new social platforms.
  • Don’t lose your company’s identity or what makes you unique.
  • Stay connected with your audience by knowing what social platform they are using.
  • Listen to what they are saying.
